Software Enhancements
Objective
Provide a set of software tools that can be used
by Center members in a production mode,
usable on both DOS and Unix platforms.
Identify programs in need of enhancement
through company response and internal
evaluation. Document potential problems and
limitations in the software.
Background and Approach
The Software Enhancement Project is part of
the on-going effort to improve the software
supplied to CALCE members, based on
suggestions provided by companies using the
software. The success of the CALCE Software
depends on this type of interaction. Moreover,
CALCE research work in the various aspects of
electronics packaging often suggests
modification to the existing software. The
CALCE programming staff is dedicated to
providing the best software and documentation
possible.
Work Accomplished
CALCE V3.0X has been updated to V3.5
software. CALCE V3.5 was released at the
March meeting. The new software version
includes several new and enhanced software
tools. The following documentation for the
DOS version of the CALCE Software was also
provided:
- CALCE User's Guide for Version 3.5.
- CALCE Tutorial for Version 3.5
- CALCE File Reference Guide for Version 3.5
- CALCE Interface Guide for Version 3.5
Update 1 for CALCE Version 3.5 was also
released. This update contained software
problem fixes as well as new software tools.
CALCE Version 1.0 for SunOS 4.1.x was
released. The Unix version of the CALCE
Software marked our first venture into a
networked graphical user interface (GUI)
environment and provides a model for future
software development at the CALCE Center.
The Unix tool set provides the same core
functionality embedded in our current DOS
version. In addition, the Unix version came
with its own set of user documentation, which
includes:
- CALCE User's Guide for Unix Version 1.0.
- CALCE Tutorial for Unix Version 1.0.
- CALCE Interface Guide for Unix Version 1.0.
Comments
The CALCE V3.5 Validation and Technical
Reference Guide is still under development and
will be provided to the members as soon as it is
completed.
At least one more update will be provided for
CALCE Version 3.5. This update will include
software problem fixes and new tool
capabilities.
