CARMA (Computer Aided Reliability and Maintainability Application) developed by Texas Instruments Defense Systems and Electronics Group in the early 1990s incorporated components of the original CALCE Software which has become calcePWA. The CARMA toolkit provides an integrated, flexible, and extensible solution for Reliability and Maintainability. CARMA borrows the CALCE PWA modelng, the thermal analysis, vibration analysis, and failure assessessment software moduels to provide state of the art Physics of Failure approach for evaluation the reliability of printed wiring assemblies. The software has been used successfully to improve industry designs. As computer capabilities have increased the group that developed CARMA has risen the bar with the introduction of ASCENT (Advanced Specialty Engineering Networked Toolkit).

With acquisition of Texas Instruments Defense Systems and Electronics Group by Raytheon Systems Company, CARMA and ASCENT have enjoyed increased industrual exposure. The latest information on CARMA and the new ASCENT software can be found on the Raytheon Web Site.
