Prof. Pecht speaks on reliability and testing of electronics at the SPM Anniversary
Sept 11, 2017

Prof. Michael Pecht of CALCE, University of Maryland, was featured as a keynote speaker at the 50th anniversary of SPM, where he spoke on the topic of prognostic-based qualifications for electronics components and systems.

His keynote, Advances in Reliability Prediction, Testing and Supply Chain Management: What the best companies are doing, focused on the increasing numbers of electronic devices that are passing their qualifications tests but failing in the field—resulting in significant losses for many companies.

Pecht discussed the inadequacy of current testing methods, argued that the current standards need to be replaced and spoke on how companies can ensure acceptable reliability while qualifying products in an accelerated manner by using physics of failure mechanisms alongside data-analytics machine learning.

The Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE), the largest electronic products and systems research center focused on electronics reliability, is dedicated to providing a knowledge and resource base to support the development of competitive electronic components, products, and systems.
